Best zoom lens for under £ 600 / $ 1200?

I have a Canon EOS 350D Silver and wanted to get a zoom lens for it, but I have enough under move, I would mainly take bird / pictures of insects and does not mind buying off eBay lol Sorry, looking for a particular brand in the UK
