Fisheye in the $ 100's perhaps?
I have a Nikon D40x and IM looking for a decent price in a fish-eye lens …. Ive done extensive research on the 10.5mm Nikkor and 3.5 Peleng and the tokina, sigma, but yadadadada too expensivvve! with that said I left an option that is 16 mm Zenitar – I think …. Does anyone recommend? and does anyone know of anything else in my budget range ?…. No converters … any help would be nice. thanks.
You've done your research well. Unfortunately, the Zenitar is as cheap as lenses go. For ~ $ 200, you get a fisheye well built, with (fairly impressive) Cyrillic text on cap, both the lens and the barrel. The disadvantage is that it is a circular fisheye lens FX. You lose most fishiness of "having it on a DX camera. Your only option in this price range is the Peleng, at ~ $ 330. It projects a circular image on a camera FX, so its D40x, you will get dark corners, but you keep the barrel distortion or massive 180 degree viewing angle. In fact, reduces to what are your plans for the lens. For what it's worth, there is nothing wrong with the Nikkor. It's expensive, but you can always sell if you change your mind. The lenses do not depreciate, as the bodies chamber. Good luck!
