Best hard drive camcorder of choice, DV, Mini-DV?

I'm about to buy a video camera and want to balance a good thing with no overspend. It seems that those who burned to DVD are being replaced by those that record directly to a hard disk. However, these are more expensive. Is there any great advantage of going with the hard disk version for the average user? Also, if I go to the DVD route – is there any advantage to the Mini-DV and full size DVD? How you play the mini-DVD in a DVD drive? Thank you.

Ok what I say isn't intended only for you but all the people in the world who thinks that. miniDVD MINIDV NO. Theres a reason why they call it THE LITTLE miniDVDs DVDS, FOR MINI theyre. Its not because theyre DUMB AND forgot the "D" AT THE END OF "DVD" and decided I was MINIDV. Is a totally different thing. Okay, now this is so, I'm going to explain. MiniDVs are the tapes, while miniDVDs (with a "D") are thus miniature versions of dvds. In the camcorder world, when someone says miniDVD, is the same as dvd. So MiniDVD = DVD (for what they were talking about). Remember now. It will be on the test. There are three types of cameras, you have that right, but not the hard drive, DV, and miniDV. Hard Drive is one, yes, and dvds (remember this?) are otherwise, and DV is the last class. And in this case, also DV = MiniDV. DV isn't the same as miniDV, but in the consumer world (keyword: consumers) cameras, when someone says they mean DV miniDV. Now there are three factors to a camera Consumer goods: quality, usability and price. Let's talk about quality. Any camera you buy will compress the video (remember, still talking about consumer cameras). It will make the smallest video compression so its easier to edit, etc, but also reduce quality. Hard drive cams and DVD cams use MPEG-2 compression. DV digital camcorders use compression (hence the name). DV is less compressed than MPEG-2, thus offering a better quality. However, the file size will be approximately 4-5 times higher than DVD or hard drive cameras.
